Reading...

"If you don't have time to read, you don't have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that."
Stephen King

I love this quote.  Not only is it very true but it gives us the perfect reason to pull out a book and read.

When we read, we get a chance to see how other writer's weave words, both good and bad.  We get inspired by the good and encouraged by the bad.   I mean, if they can get published writing such dreck, we who write better surely can with some persistence. :-)

I've been on a reading binge this past month.  I've read the entire Harry Potter series,  (I'd never read them before though the kids had.) a western, two thrillers and started another fantasy novel.

There's a historical romance waiting for its turn too.

I want to encourage each of you to read, and read widely.  Read outside the genres you write in.  Expand your reading horizons.

So, what are your reading ?

I've read over 140 books so far this year--some in my genre, others outside of it. This is the upside to reviewing books.

I just wrote a review today for Saving Max by Antoinette van Heugten. Here are a few other books I've read lately:

The 4th and 5th books in Chris Wardle's Mr. Tinfish series, Brave Boys of Derry or No Surrender! by W.S. Martin, Invisible Path by Marilyn Meredith, and Call Me Kate by Molly Roe.

I loved that quote from Stephen King's memoir too.

Wishing you the best,

Cheryl

Great Stephen King quote.

I'm currently reading a book that I will be posting a review for on my blog, later this month.

I've been reading the Women of Otherworld series by Kelley Armstrong, Kim Harrison's series and The Dresden File books by Jim Butcher. All are urban fantasy. I've read some of my usual mystery writers - Diane Mott Davidson and Rita Mae & Sneaky Pie Brown and a few other authors here and there. I recently finished "A New Birth of Freedom" by Robert G. Pielke, and just today finished the Richard Castle book. I'm in process of reading "The Poisoner's Handbook"

Right now, I'm reading "The Girls" by Lori Lansens. It's a novel about conjoined twins and it's just wonderful. The writing is beautiful and the story is very touching. I love it.

I'm currently reading Danielle Steel's "Family Ties." Before that, I read the first of Rick Riordan's new Kane Chronicles series "The Red Pyramid." If you liked his Percy Jackson series, you should read this one too. I plan to read a short story next, and then start the "Little Women" series, which I've never read before. Happy reading all!
